JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - No call at Christmas. No one to wish you a Happy Birthday. No one to ask advice about life's toughest decisions.
Children who age out of Arkansas's foster care system without ever being adopted face an uphill battle at best. Others face what they feel is a roller-coaster ride out of control.
Ashley Koettel wishes her life would be as smooth as the manicures she's learning to give as a cosmetology student. But, life hasn't exactly been fair. |

State’s foster children could use more help
The state is not doing all it can to find permanent homes for children in foster care, according to a study released this week.
An increasing number leave the system at age 18 without ever having been permanently adopted. They often don’t complete high school and face increased risks of becoming young parents, being homeless and criminal activities, according to the study, “Finding a Family for a Lifetime: Aging Out of the Foster Care System,” by the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. | |

Ark. Foster Kids "Aging Out" And On Their Own
Many foster kids turn 18 without ever finding a permanent home, and that can have devastating consequences. The term being used is "aging out" of the system, and every year hundreds of kids leave the care of the state to tackle life on their own. At least one advocacy group fears many aren't prepared.

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - You may never see their faces. Abused or neglected children taken from their parents. Parents sometimes caught up in drugs or trouble with the law. They're placed into foster care and many are put up for adoption. They are precious children caught up in a system that's supposed to help them... But is it? |

JONESBORO -- As the adoption coalition continues to take shape in Northeast Arkansas, there have been some challenges along the way, members of the group learned Wednesday.
