The Adoption Process According to DCFS Policy Manual (Appendix IX)
Make an online inquiry.
DCFS staff will contact you within 3 working days and mail you a packet of information.
Within 10 working days of your initial inquiry a Home Evaluator will discuss requirements and provide record check forms for you to complete.
Within 30 calendar days of initial contact a Home Evaluator recommends to their supervisor to invite you to training.
Approval or denial to allow training will be given within 5 working days of approval request.
If approved, within 5 days papers are electronically sent to Mid South Academy for you to be notified of the next scheduled training.
Applicant will also complete CPR and First Aid Training.
Within 30 days of Mid South training a home study will be conducted.
(You will need to provide a copy of home and car insurance, current water bill, TB tests, physicals no more than 6 mo. old, marriage certificate, and any divorce decrees.)
Approval or denial should be given within 30 days by the DCFS County Supervisor.
Approval or denial to be an “open” home for either foster or adoption should be by letter.
If approved, applicant will be entered into the state CHRIS system files as a family resource. They should immediately have Little Rock staff run your information to see if you match with a child.
You will then be approved to view files of potential children to adopt.
